What a spectacular start to the Tennis season we are having. After all the high-profile Coach hires, the stage was set for the 1st slam of the year and the AO draws have definitely delivered a great draw -mostly on the women’s draw many would say, but the men’s draw will be the most talked about in the next few days!
WTA
Potential 4th round matches:
Serena-Ivanovic, Vinci-Errani, Li-Lisicki, Kerber-Kvitova in the top half! I will go with Serena, Errani, Li and Kerber into the quarters here!
In the bottom half: Jankovic-Halep, Suarez Navarro-Sharapova, Radwanska-Wozniacki, Sloane Stephens-Azarenka. Azarenka-Sloane and Jankovic-Halep could be real classics! I will go with the usual suspects here, maybe Sloane can make the upset.
Bottomline: Fair and Balanced draw! Which only means Serena is an even bigger favorite now 🙂
ATP
Potential 4th round matches:
Nadal-Nishikori, Raonic-Del Potro (don’t touch the net!), Murray-Isner, Tsonga-Federer in the top half! This pretty much the action packed half of the draw! You should be a maverick to even attempt to pick the winners here, I will venture out anyway! Nadal, Del Potro, Isner, Federer are my picks.
In the bottom-half : Berdych-Haas, Youzhny-Ferrer, Wawrinka-Gasquet, Fognini (or Gulbis maybe)-Djokovic. Novak should make it to the final, if not he should terminate the Becker relation straight away! Wawrinka-Gasquet will be wonderful with those gorgeous backhands!
Bottom-line: A new year or wedding gift to Nole. Will be a shocker if he doesn’t come out of Melbourne with 7 slams!

This draw is brutal in the top half and Rafa’s quarter is strong with JMDP as his projected round of 8 opponent.
I totally agree with women’s draw. Serena seems all set up easily till semis. Li Na vs Serena, Vika vs Sharapova seems all set. Tomic in men’s has spiced it up but I doubt if he would even ruffle Rafa’s hair. Can Stepanek who pushed Del Potro for a 3rd setter pull off an upset against Federer who seemed indifferent against Hewitt? Unlikely but possible. Seems all set for a Djoker vs Nadal but Aus open might just be the slippery ground for Nadal. Never know.
the top half is brutal but I have seen these brutal draws before not come to pass and then the other half becomes more challenging!

I am reminded of the Wimbledon 2013 draw. Murray was supposed to have the toughest draw and it opened up in 2 days. One match at a time really.
besides easy draws might leave a player undercooked in a final!

Djokovic can be pencilled in straight away!
Nadal, I am not so sure, but after his 2013 US hard courts, we all know Rafa can lord it over the best even on hard courts. Funnily he has had a poorer record at AO than USO which seems very counter intuitive!

Thanks for reblogging this and your support to Sportz Cosmos! love your articles and match commentary 🙂
Dan Martin, thanks for the reblog. Prakash, I agree with all your picks except isber- Murray. I really don’t see Isner winning this on a slow court. I suppose you think that Murray will be very rusty. Well, I am not so sure.
Federer- Tsonga is always interesting. Tsonga has beaten him at Wimbledon and French Open, so this really could be tricky for Federer. Well, we will see!
The way i saw Sloane Stephens playing today, if Azarenka fails to play well in the 4th round ,Sloane can easily crash her.
