Barclay’s Premier League : Weekend Preview

As we start approaching the end game in the English Premier League, every match gains in significance and importance. Here are the matches to watch out this weekend.

EVERTON V ARSENAL

This is the pick of the matches this weekend as it could be the make-or-break match for both Arsenal and Everton in different perspectives. Arsenal’s trophyless run would have to endure another season should they lose this match while a loss for Everton would most definitely destroy their hopes of playing in Europe next season. While Everton’s Barkley may be out for the match with a calf strain, Gibbs and Monreal are undergoing tests which leaves Vermaelan as the most likely candidate at left back. Judging by his shaky form, Kevin Mirallas should be ready to pounce should Arsenal make the slightest mistake. But Arsenal have had some good news with the return of Diaby and Mesut Ozil, which should give them a much-needed boost. While Everton have a perfect record in their last six home matches, Arsenal have been able to secure just 7 points in their last six away matches. Roberto Martinez’s genius has come a long way this season and I believe it would surface as Everton take on Arsenal at Goodison Park.

Prediction : 1-1

WEST HAM V LIVERPOOL

Liverpool’s season has been an extraordinary one as their attack has been incredible. The feint troubles in defense have been easily overshadowed by the attack and I should see no reason to differ from that. On Sunday, they travel to Upton Park as an encounter against a mid-table side at such a crucial time of the season comes as a huge blessing for them. West Ham will be boosted by the return of their captain Kevin Nolan but that hardly comes as a boon against Liverpool. West Ham might be playing in their home but a win seems to be a tad too much. I would openly go with Liverpool for this match.

Prediction : 0-3

NEWCASTLE v MANCHESTER UNITED

The possibility of Europe may be far from United’s reach but the Europa League still remains visible. All it would take is to finish ahead of Spurs and Everton and the hurdle of Newcastle this week makes it a daunting prospect. Riding high after a commendable performance against Bayern Munich, united will look to make easy work of Newcastle. However, Newcastle have been fading away ever since the New Year and the change doesn’t seem to stop soon. Judging by their current form, I would have United pip the Magpies.

Prediction : 0-2

MANCHESTER CITY V SUNDERLAND

The next weekend presents a potential title decider for Manchester City when they take on Liverpool. Seeing that, it would do them good to avoid an upset when they take on Southampton at the Etihad. City’s Spectacular record at Etihad is likely to be extended as Southampton, despite their impressive performances don’t stand much of a chance against City. Southampton’s feeble chance of winning would start at the dismantling of City’s midfield and Wanyama’s doubtfulness for the game casts a big shadow upon their chances. Even though I would prefer Southampton reap rewards for their excellent performances, Manchester City tip the scales on my predictions.

Prediction – 2-1
