Italian Serie A : Weekend Preview

Juventus has hardly been challenged in Serie A in last 3 years and they look good to win a 3rd consecutive “scudetto”. Dismal form of both the Milan giants has hardly helped. Although Roma and Napoli did give some fight in the initial phase of the season but looks like won’t be able to stop Juventus, Napoli’s win over Old Lady last weekend notwithstanding.

Juventus v/s Livorno

Juventus has a relatively easy home fixture against relegation threatened Livorno and an upset looks highly unlikely. Although Livorno did earn a home draw against Inter last week, I don’t see them beating Juventus, a team that has lost just 2 games so far in Serie A.

Prediction: Home win

Inter v/s Bologna

Walter Mazzarri’s Inter is winless in last 3 games, out of which last 2 home games have resulted in a loss and a draw. This could be a good opportunity for them to get 3 crucial points against relegation threatened Bologna and consolidate their position for the Europa League spot.

Prediction: Home win

Cagliari v/s Roma

This should be a routine match between two sides who don’t have much to fight for in the season. Roma is safe distance away from both Juventus (8 points behind) and Napoli ( 9 points ahead) and looks set to return to Champions League football. Cagliari on the other hand is safe distance away from the relegation. We could end up seeing a dull draw.

Prediction: Draw

Parma v/s Napoli

A matchup between two teams who have had good seasons so far. Napoli is high on confidence after beating league leaders Juventus last weekend, whereas Parma is coming into this match on back of 3 consecutive defeats. But to be fair to them, Parma has had tough 3 games – playing (and losing) away to Juve, Lazio and Roma. Expect to put up a good fight against Napoli.

Prediction: Draw

Fiorentina v/s Udinese

Voila are coming into this match on the back of winless run of 3 matches and their last home match resulted in loss to Milan. Fiorentina must be keen to make sure that they avoid playing Europa League qualifiers and for that to happen they have to win these kind of “winnable” games.

Prediction: Home win

Genoa v/s Milan

Finally looks like Milan has gotten its act together, may be too little too late for this season but a strong finish will surely give them a lot of confidence for next season

Prediction: Away win
